The body on side view

Next step in your training : The body. In this third lesson, we propose you to work on the whole body in the side view. With the same methodology, we will work using geometrical sketches. Step I As you may have seen in the last trainings, each drawing can cover the space of one or several geometrical shapes. The body on side view Let's sketch several shapes that will constitute the various parts of the body of the horse. Step II On this picture, we can recognise the same sketches but in their final position. You will notice that the shapes 1 and 2 correspond to the head and the neck. The 3 and 4 will be used to position the shoulders, the 5th for the side, the 6th for the rump and the tail. Finally, les shapes 7 and 8 will contain the legs. The body on side view Step III Look at this picture. The parts 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 make a square ABCD. This remark tremendously simplifies the general vision of the drawing. We don't give you any dimension here in order for you to practise your sense of observation and the proportions. The body on side view Step IV Draw now the contours of the shadows. The body on side view Step V Put the shadows in the prepared locations. Don't be affraid to strenghen some parts of the drawing such as the shoulders and the side, to get more character. Now, it's your turn...! The body on side view For the next lesson, we will work on the horse at a gallop !
